We are very excited to be launching a new partnership with our friends at Educate a Child (EAC) to fund the $3m “Community Driven Primary Education for All” project in Ethiopia.

The goal of the project is to get more than 32,000 current “out-of-school” children across five districts enrolled in primary school. This would mean an increase in primary school enrollment from 66% in 2015 to 89% in 2018 which is amazing in terms of creating opportunities to remove the obstacles that are keeping those kids from school right now.

Ethiopia has come a long, long way in the past 20 years in terms of developing primary education, however there is a long road ahead as well. With over 1.7 million young children not in primary schools, improving the quality, equity and efficiency of the education system are still critical issues facing the country.

This project will begin with the construction of a model school in each of the five districts, three in the region of Tigray and two in the region of Oromia. These model schools are being designed to demonstrate the possible and to show the community the benefits of education in a way that can be replicated in other pastoralist regions.

All in, the “Community Driven Primary Education for All” will span three years and will cost $3M.  Half of which is being made possible with a grant from EAC and the other half which will be raised by Imagine1day. This is not the first time imagine1day has partnered with EAC, having worked together on the “Bale Out of School Children Initiative”, that reduced the number of out of school children by more than 14,900 across two districts in the Bale Zone of the Oromia Region. The amazing success of this program shows us what we can do when two committed organizations come together. We are thrilled to be starting a new project with them now.

Fundraising for the “Community Driven Primary Education for All” got off to a great start with an exclusive dinner at Chip and Shannon Wilson’s last month that raised over $430,000. You can be part of this amazing project by making a donation on our website here.
